Color Basics
For designers it is important that you have enough knowledge about colors, before you paint houses or design color schemes, or arrive at any conclusions in regards with design, it is very essential that you are friends with colors.
Even if you familiar with the color wheel, there are a lot of mysteries involving color, you’ll be amazed at how things easily transform with just one stroke of color, some may ruin your design and some colors are simply the magic ingredient that would give spark to your design.
Color has it’s own vocabulary, learning a few simple terms will help you understand how it works: then you can use it to the best advantage when planning color scheme.
The words color and hue are interchangeable. The primary colors, red, blue and yellow are the three basic colors from which all the other colors are mixed. If you mix two primary colors the result is secondary color, going further mixing together primary and secondary color next to it forms a tertiary.
Some colors are warm and some are cool. Be very careful when you choose your colors . Warm color scheme may need a little cool to tone it down; likewise, you can enliven a cool color scheme with a bit of warm to keep it from becoming completely cold.
Keeping the balance of your color scheme is very important, you wouldn’t want your room to look chaotic, though some prefer to experiment with bold colors, still it is best to keep a balance. Try to choose colors of similar intensity, then you’ll have a headache, tone it down with a combination of soft hues to better compliment the darker tones.
