CREATE LIVING ROOM STYLES WITH COLOR AND FURNISHINGS
When planning to decorate and furnish a living room, the family should discuss first what the room will be put up for. Quite often the living room is used to watch television, but for some well – off family it is simply for entertaining guests. In an average Filipino family setting almost everything is done in the living room, from studying to chatting, many listen to music in the living room. This area sometimes serves as the dining room, in which case there is a choice between making the room look like two rooms or keeping it as one.
The character of the living room depends on the relationship between the size and the way it is decorated and furnished. A huge room with ceiling height windows and high ceilings can take big furniture pieces, but smaller spaces with low ceilings can be made to feel more spacious by decorating it with pale colors and scaling the furniture pieces to be in keeping with the size of the room.
Color plays an important part in the comfort of a room. Bright colors bring cheer to a room with little natural light. Pastel shades soften the harshness of a large angular room. Contrast too can be used to good effect: in a room with very rich colored furnishing, a paler shade of the same color or a neutral color will make the furniture stand out boldly rather than merge with the décor. Remember that colors look different under electric light from the way they appear in daylight. Lighting for mood and function is very important consideration.
