CREATING A MOOD

Apart from its many functional applications, a well planed lighting system can do wonders for your home, it contributes a big deal to the atmosphere in your home. The interior design of homes wouldn’t be perfect without the atmosphere and mood the lights are creating. The position and style of the lamps and fixtures determines the kind of light they give. Candle light and oil lamps have long been associated with a warm and cozy atmosphere, and you can create an almost identical mood with modern lighting. Technology today is giving us a vast variety of lighting systems to choose from. From a simple pin light to illuminating spotlights, you can create any mood you want. Using small spotlights or shaded lamps to make isolated pools of light around the room, magic is created.

The mood may be enhanced where dark floor or ceiling absorbs the light rather than reflect it. If on the other hand you want to create a fresh airy appearance, use reflected light from pale colored ceiling and walls. Ideally lighting should be as flexible as possible so that you can arrange it to suit the occasion. This cannot be achieved merely by fitting a dimmer switches. Different lighting moods require different lighting system. When you plan your house, plan the lighting too, work with the designer, don’t let them just dictate you or simply give you the working drawings, after all it is your house it is you who will use it. Make it suit you taste and lifestyle. Let it conform to your way of living, not the other way around. When you plan your light, first consider the natural light that is brought to the interior, next plan your lighting first before you decorate or build any furniture into a room.
