FLOORS
Every time I enter a home, the first thing I notice is the flooring, may it be attractive, clean or dirty it catches my interest, this may be true also for some people who are very particular with floors. The way your floor is tiled or whatever the layout is, reflects the homeowners. The floor receives much of the wear and tear, it is the easiest to be damaged. But how do we achieve a good flooring, is it in the construction? Or is it in the maintenance? I should say both. Here are some practical considerations to achieve an attractive floor.
Before laying the final floor materials, it is important that the sub floor be in good condition and well prepared. Chipboard, ply board, or even a hardboard floor can in some areas, be used as a finished surface if laid well.
Where floor need to be wiped regularly clean or be waterproof, tiles are obviously the best choice. Ceramic and quarry tiles provide a very hard wearing and easy to clean finish.
Vinyl is also a durable and less expensive, but is apt to slippery when wet.
More than one floor covering may be used in the living area, this makes the room more striking, this provides a visual interest. The option whether to tile or use wood as a flooring material depends on the homeowners, the flooring should conform to their lifestyle. A wooden floor, sanded and sealed, with carpet can be a good compromise between the elegant and functional.
