HOW TO CREATE A FUNCTIONAL LIVING ROOM

For you to create a functional living area, you must be aware of the characteristics that you like and dislike about that area, ask some of your family members and friends too as to what they want to see in that area. The living area should be lively and useful, a functional living area can be the heart of a home, after all this is where you entertain your guests. Renovating your living area can be costly but for you to minimize on expenses, try eliminating things that shouldn’t be done or may be uncalled-for in a living area.

These following questions may point you in the right direction.

  • Who will be using the room? – it is a place where people read or do particular hobbies and this is also a place for entertaining guests. So most likely family members and a few chosen strangers will be using this room, will they need special seating, tables and lighting?
  • Do you watch television here? If so, the set should be positioned appropriately , bearing in mind how light reflects off the screen and where the chairs are.
  • Will your home - theater be in this room? You may want to consider a special storage unit for your home theater. If so, you need to check that there are enough power points for both this and the other electronic gadgets.
  • Do you need somewhere for drinks?
  • Is there sufficient heating, cooling?
  • Is the lighting adequate?
  • Do you have some personal collection you would want to display – you will need a shelf space and may be appropriate lighting to show them off.

 And lastly depending on your budget, this is the most crucial part of assessing the works that needs to be done. Before you head for the DIY store, it is important that you fix the top figure, setting aside about 10% for any unforeseen expenditures – there are sure to be some when work begins. Then it is up to to juggle which needs to be prioritized.
