PLANNING A FENCE

It is no longer safe to live in an open space, I don’t really know what happened to society but almost every home needs to be fenced either to define a boundary or simply keep unwelcome company out.  In most cases it is for security reasons. When you plan to install a fence consider not only the cost but also the nature of the ground. For example in a very windy spot, an open fence offers little wind resistance, but a concrete fence needs to be very sturdy.

Many types of fencing can be bought in ready made sections but many home owners choose to custom made their fence.  The common fencing types are the concrete fence, the timber fence and a wire fence.

A timber fence is of course made up of wood panels or strips of wood in can be classified in these types:

  1. Close boarded vertical  - these are overlapping feather-edged boards nailed to horizontal arris rails.
  2. Paling – post and rail paling fences are among the cheapest and easiest timber fences to install.
  3. Board and batten – were once typical of rural farm houses.
  4. Double sided – this style duded the good neighbor fence’ gives adjoining properties an equally good looking fence.
  5. Post and rails- also known s ranch – style. Spaced horizontal rails secured to posts. Rails may be square or poles.
  6. Picket fences  - are among the commonly used and most popular once for it’s simplicity and versatility. The timber are spaced upright and nailed to horizontal rails secured to posts.
