RESNET Certification – What It Can Do For Your Profession
If you have been looking at the home design profession and have been wondering if you want to get involved, then you will need to know what kind of changes are occurring. From the outside, home design may seem the same as it always has been. As a matter of fact, you may not even know how it could be different. Houses still look the same way they always have. And building science hasn’t changed. So what is different and what should you know in order to be successful? Well, the answer is quite obvious. In order to be a relevant and essential member of the home design profession, you have to have knowledge of energy efficiency and conservation. There have been major strides taken recently to better monitor and analyze problems such as fuel and air leakage. This probably makes sense to you. So how can you learn? You need to get RESNET certification.
Your first step toward RESNET certification is to go through RESNET training. This training will last five days and will not cost you too much, especially considering the fact that the information you will be obtaining is invaluable. The training will be divided into two parts. You will have your classroom session. This is how you’ll learn the statistics, the building science, and the relevant information, such as energy codes, incentives, and goal. You will also have field time. This is where you will learn the actual practice of home energy auditing. You will do things like conduct blower door tests, analyze and monitor fuel uses, determine air leakage, and analyze envelope insulation.
Once you go through your training, you will be ready for your RESNET certification exam. This test is 50 questions and is made up of multiple choice and true/false questions. On this exam, you will be tested on every aspect of the home design profession. There will be many questions on building science and heat transfer. There will also be questions about financial energy conservation incentives, energy units, and even energy units.
Once you have your RESNET certification, you are going to be a sought after professional in your field. When home building crews get together and discuss design, they are going to want you onboard to discuss energy efficient options. When homeowners want to redesign, they are going to call you in to advise how to conserve the most energy and save the most money.
