Bed bugs were thought to be almost extinct towards the end of the 20th century but have made a strong comeback in North America, Europe and Australia, probably due to the fact that more and more people are travelling the world which makes it easy for the bugs to spread. Bed bugs can be carried into houses on suitcases and other things like that, so get around easily.
Lots of bites in your house hold during sleeping can be a more obvious sign of bed bug infestation. They sleep during the day and come out at night from wherever they are hiding in your house. At night they come out to feed on warm blooded animals including humans. However these bites are very similar to other creatures like mosquitos so you can’t tell just from the bites what is causing it.
If your house is heavily infested you might even notice a strong musty smell that is a sign of a bed bug infestation.
A common sign is to see areas of small red/brownish colour on the duvet or under sheet. This is often a bed bug symptoms.
These are some of the more common signs. The insects like to spend a lot of their time within narrow cracks or crevices, making them difficult to find if you don’t know where to look. The quicker you remove the bed bugs the better as they breed quickly and can spread through a house in no time.
