LIVING ROOM COLOR

I’ve asked quite a few clients what confuses them when it comes to designing their homes, more often than not their answer is color. Some people find it hard to decide on a color scheme, choosing the right color for the walls and what color will go with which and them putting together. Some often settle with the same hues, but trends are encouraging us to be bold and dip our brushes into indigo blues, sunflower yellows and even tangerine. How do you gain confidence to put together the living room of your dreams? The first step is to know the basic of colors, learn their language and begin to understand how they work. Blending and mixing of colors could be fun and risky  but it’s worth trying if you want to enliven your living area. Using the basic theory of colors, you can create a living room that looks either smaller or bigger than it is, lighter or darker and either warmer or cooler. Different colors have been proven to have certain psychological effects.

If you are still stuck for ideas or confused about where to start, existing furnishings that need to be incorporated into the scheme may help rather than hinder, if your sofa needs to stay put, try getting inspiration from that piece.  A living room tends by its very nature to be the focus of the range of different activities, from studying to relaxing or dining, indeed, as the pressure on housing grows and more people live in a studio – style apartment, the demands put on this room is increasing. To add more interest in your living room area, try incorporating furnishings with textures. A neutral room will never be boring if sisal flooring is combines with textured rugs, muslin at the windows, silk cushions and so on, the possibilities are endless, remember it is your personal touch that makes that room alive.
